One way that Fitzgerald (author) presents illusion in this chapter is when Tom takes Nick into New York to meet Mrs Wilson. He creates this magic feeling about this whole chapter by using words like enchanted, flounced, swept etc, these words help give the feeling as if this whole situation is just to good to be true and that it just one big fantasy and to good to be true. Its to good to be true because everything is happening so fast and smoothly with no blips, everyone is smiling and having a great time in their secrete lives.
