“The American dream does not come to those who fall asleep.” The well known novel ‘The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is about Nick Carraway’s story when he moves to New York for the summer. It follows his story his summer story and all the drama that comes with it. Throughout the novel three settings represents the false, failed and corrupted side of the American dream.

Body Paragraph 1:

S- East Egg represents the rich and false side characters, where people have successfully achieved the American dream.

E- We see this through the novel as East egg it is seen as wealthy and an elegant place but it is in fact false, Tom nor Daisy both did not have work for their money they both inherited their money. When East Egg was first introduced into the novel, the narrator was looking out over the water from West Egg gazing at the “white palaces of fashionable East Egg”. It is a place filled with wealth and “though this is a most superficial tag to express the bizarre and not a little sinister”, explanation of what East Egg is really like.

E-While Nick is narrating he looks out over the bay and he comments on the “white palaces’ that are in East Egg. The fact that he described them as being white intertwines with the illusion of white being pure and elegant where that’s the illusion when it’s plain and empty. I is a place full of materialistic characters of on talk about

Y- Fitzgerald creates East Egg as a place being fashionable but thats is the illusion illustrated throughout the text. Tom and Daisy are represented as characters that have successfully achieved the American Dream and is the superficial tag that they have been put with that they must maintain. He begins to relate the ideas of AMerican Dream and illusion to the real world by people not always being what they seem to be, that there is always another side to everyone no matter how fashionable they truly seem.

  1. Hi Georgia,

You seem to have the ideas here but you are not getting them down in a logical manner. Take a minute to bullet point the things you want to say in this paragraph. What is the main argument you want to present.

Once you have done this, apply these bullet points to your SExexeY structure. Make sure that you maintain ONE argument- East Egg as a representation of illusion or East Egg as a representation of the false American Dream.
