“When I look back, it seems to me as if this almost miraculous change of inclination and will was the immediate suggestion of the guardian angel of my life”

this shows foreshadowing that something bad is going to/has happened when it says that he looks back on a “miraculous change”. this can imply that a situation had escalated or dramatically changed in a bad way. A bad way because further into the sentence sit goes on to say that there was an “immediate suggestion of the guardian angle of my life”. Having a Guardian angle can imply that he was so close to death and that maybe he should have died. However throughout the novel he always talks about his destiny and fait and how there no way that u can escape w your fait. So maybe by him being so close to death he was able complete his destiny and do what he was meant to be and survive through it with the help of a “guardian angle”.
